Bluebonnets in spring, chicken fried steak, recognizable shapes on state highways (I’m talking about you, Louisiana) and kolaches.
So many things I miss about Texas. But mostly, I miss the food: burritos, tacos, fajitas, nachos, sopapillas, chimichangas, queso. Mmm, queso. Delicious cheesy goodness.
Since I’m so far away from good food, I make a lot of Tex-Mex at home. One of my main staples is taco seasoning. Not that store-bought fake stuff, but the real deal. Cayenne, instead of spice extract, garlic instead of whey, oregano instead of wheat flour.
